60 Minutes 1/4/09
I watched “Sixty Minutes” on Sunday night. The first story was about Kathleen Rice, an attorney who tried a man for murder after he killed two people in a drunk driving accident. The man drove drunk, and was going on the wrong way section of the highway. He struck a limo crushing and killing the driver. He also beheaded a seven year old little girl. This happened in Nassau County, New York. Only in rare circumstances are drunk drivers charged with murder. Kathleen Rice said being drunk should not allow you to make excuses for your crimes. The man and the seven year old child were killed because of the man’s negligent actions. The man was found guilty of second degree murder. Drunk driving is a serious crime. Many people who commit these crimes have been convicted multiple times. I agree with the woman that people need to crack down on dui offenses. Many people have admitted to driving drunk at least once in their lives. Driving is a privilege not a right so people need to take it seriously and act appropriately when operating a motor vehicle.
I agree with you 100%. Get these idiots off the road before they kill someone, and if they do kill someone, lock ‘em up for a long time.
