The End of Soaps?

Published by mcnally1 at 2:32 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

Lately, I have seen that many soap operas are cutting cast members in order to save money. Most of the advertising dollars for soap operas are from the automobile industry. Since the automobile industry is going broke, they are not spending a lot of money on advertising. Soap operas just are not doing well in the ratings. They are on when people are at work and many people are not at home because many families have two parents that work full time jobs. Life is busy for many people so usually they watch only prime time television. Will the soap opera genre survive? I do not think so. I mean they are basically just recycling the same plot lines year after year. There are some die hard fans but networks need ratings to make money. If not, they should try showing soaps at night or on the weekends to attract more of a following since there are not many new shows on during the weekend, they are basically repeats or movies.
