Dear Zachary: A Documentary on MSNBC
I watched Dear Zachary. It was an incredibly moving documentary that aired on Sunday at 9 pm on MSNBC. It was focused around Dr. Andrew Bagby’s life. He was murdered by his psychotic ex girlfriend and was left dead in Keystone Park. Shirley Turner, his murderer had his child after his death. She disappeared to Newfoundland, Canada. She announced at a press conference that she was four months pregnant with Andrew Bagby’s child. Newfoundland kept delaying her extradition back to the United States. The documentary was filmed by Andrew’s child hood friend Kurt. Shirley was a very troubled woman. She gave birth to baby Zachary and would not even let Andrew’s parents Kate and David into the room to see their new grandson. A custody battle took place, and the Bagby’s got to see their grandson a few times a week. They also took care of him while Shirley was temporarily in jail. The justice system failed Zachary and Andrew. Shirley ended up taking thirteen month old Zachary to the ocean, she had taken Ativan and put it in his formula. She took it also and strapped him to her stomach and drowned herself and her son. The Bagby’s lost their only son and their only grandchild because of Shirley Turner.Andrew was such a great man. His friends and family really loved him and miss him very much. The justice system in Canada should have locked up Shirley Turner and could have prevented Zachary’s murder. The Bagby’s story made my wife cry. She did not expect Zachary to be murdered by his mother. The Bagby’s are now advocates for children and want to prevent murderers from receiving bail. This was such a sad story. The documentary was very heartbreaking and emotional.
